霊 気

What is Reiki?

What Is Reiki? The word Reiki is from the Japanese kanji rei and ki and is written in Japanese as 霊気. Since rei relates to spirit, divine, miraculous, and soul, and ki refers to life energy or force we use the word Reiki to refer to the life energy that flows through us all, and especially through someone trained to let Reiki energy flow through him or her. Reiki is not a religion, nor does it require that a person believe in any particular deity or dogma, thus making it ideal for anyone who wishes to experience relaxation and stress reduction. Since stress can lead to illness and make illness worse, Reiki works well alongside psychotherapy, Chinese medicine of any form, Western and traditional medicine, and is wonderful by itself as part of a healthy lifestyle. Reiki doesn’t replace other therapies but instead complements them if a client requires them as well.

If you would like to experience Reiki and receive it in the privacy and comfort of your home anywhere you happen to live through distance Reiki, or learn Reiki for yourself and those you wish to share it with in Reiki classes, please contact me. While Reiki is usually associated with spiritual healing and relaxation, it is also a way of life that not only promotes balance and peace, but influences how a person perceives and interacts with the rest of his or her surroundings. Reiki practitioners and clients come from all walks of life and backgrounds, and a person doesn’t have to be a mystic or highly educated to benefit from or learn Reiki. It is simple to learn and use, and it can be given to adults, children, animals, used for clearing locations, and given to food, drink, and plants.

When a person trained in and attuned to the Reiki energy allows it to flow through her many things can happen, but the wonderful thing about giving or receiving Reiki is that the energy will flow wherever it is needed, including through the Reiki practitioner. It is a unique experience for each person each time she receives it since the practitioner doesn’t force the energy to go where she believes it is needed. Instead she will allow it to flow freely to wherever the client needs it, whether it is a general relaxation from stress or relief from a specific issue in the body. Reiki doesn’t replace medical treatment that a client may be undergoing, but complements it by balancing the client’s energy flow in a way that is similar to acupuncture unblocking the energy flow through a person’s energy meridians and energy centers, or chakras.

Reiki works well alone or in conjunction with other therapies, including medications prescribed by physicians, massage, reflexology, psychotherapy, and other traditional or alternative therapies. I send Reiki from my home in Florence, Alabama, and I teach Reiki so that anyone is interested can experience the joy I feel when I let the energy flow through me and am able to help others. The Reiki energy is natural and positive, so there are no drug side effects or invasive procedures required to feel relaxation and to promote balance and healing.

As a Reiki Master, I am trained to scan the client’s energy flow and work to allow positive energy to flow through him and release blockages that may contribute to disease and imbalance, so a session may help different issues depending on each person’s needs. Receiving distance Reiki involves simply lying on your bed or relaxing in a chair that is comfortable, such as a recliner with the intention to accept the energy and any healing that comes with it. You can even relax outside if you prefer, and many people are so relaxed during a Reiki session that they find themselves drifting off to sleep.

While I send Reiki to clients, I receive guidance and information for them, such as images and messages, and when I finish sending the energy I send clients an email or other type of message with the details of what I was shown or told for them, what I did and cleared during the session, and any other information I received that might be helpful for the client’s healing. The client is free to ask for clarification of anything I said or any other questions as well.

I strive to follow the basic tenets of Reiki adapted from precepts set down by its founder, Dr. Usui, in my life and in my Reiki practice.

Just for today I will not anger
Just for today I will be filled with gratitude
Just for today I will not worry
Just for today I will work hard at all I do
Just for today I will be kind to all living creatures
